Low Earth Orbit satellite communications: new service
FCDO Services is now the central procurement route for all UK government Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications.
The FCDO’s trading fund, FCDO Services, has partnered with NSSLGlobal and Eutelsat OneWeb to streamline government procurement, eliminating the need for individual departments to navigate complex satellite communications independently. This partnership leverages the whole-of-government buying power and the decades of expertise of FCDO Services.
This LEO technology, crucial for crisis response, provides:
- download speeds up to 195 Mbps and upload speeds up to 32 Mbps,
- resilience when terrestrial communications fail during natural disasters
- protection against technological threats by offering government-controlled access to LEO services
- reduced dependency on foreign infrastructure while maintaining high security standards
